Bring your integration challenges to the IHE Help Desk Kiosk. IHE Profiles can help you work with your vendors to solve your challenges more easily.

This year's focus: the IHE Radiation Exposure Monitoring (REM) Profile

FDA has launched a collaborative Initiative to reduce unnecessary radiation exposure from Medical Imaging.

Among other things the initiative calls for:

  • CMS to incorporate key quality assurance practices into accreditation and participation criteria
  • Professional organizations to continue work to gather data and develop diagnostic reference levels.
  • Imaging facilities to incorporate reference levels into exam quality assurance procedures
  • Vendors to facilitate the collection by sites of dose information for imaging studies

The IHE REM Profile documents an architecture and standards to collect and manage DICOM Dose Structured Reports from CT, Angiography, and Mammography devices. Several vendors have already released support for the REM Profile in products. Many others have committed to implementing the profile by the end of this year. ACR is updating their Dose Registry to allow for REM-based submission of anonymized DICOM dose reports.
