SIIM has entered the world of social networking and Twitter is SIIM’s latest addition! Stay in the loop and follow SIIM_Tweets on Twitter. For those of you not familiar with this social networking tool, here is a brief introduction:

Twitter allows people to post 140-character messages answering the question, “What are you doing?”

Click here for a short video describing how Twitter works.

For the purposes of SIIM 2010, the answer to this will include news and updates to help you get ready for the meeting; highlights from program sessions as they occur; tips for places to eat and things to do in Minneapolis, MN (come meet up with your fellow Twitterers!); and more.

It will be a way that attendees can connect to share information with one another and to find out who is attending the sessions they are attending.

Getting Started

  • Log on to http://twitter.com.
  • Select a username and password and fill out your profile.
  • Next, search for “SIIM_Tweets” under the “Find People” tab. Select “Follow” to have SIIM_Tweets’s updates appear on your Twitter page. Or, you can go directly to the SIIM_Tweets page and click "follow."
  • You can access Twitter online or on your phone.

Notes:

  • When you "follow" someone, they do not automatically start following you as well.
  • If you would like, you can change your settings to "private" so that only those people you have authorized can follow you and read your Tweets. Go to the Settings tab and scroll down to "Tweet Privacy." Click the box that says "Protect my tweets."
bullet Remember to add the tag "#SIIM10" to your tweets to make them easily searchable by other attendees. You can search for the hashtag through a Twitter search or use websites like Twazzup, Twitterfall or Monitter to track the hashtag.
